Former Wheat Institute scientist killed over loan dispute, RAB says

The information was gleaned from Zakirul Hossain, who planned the murder, and Md Saiful, who carried out the attack at Shyamoli in Dhaka after their arrest in a murder case, Commander Khandaker Al Moin said on Monday, director of the media wing of the RAB.

Zakirul and Saiful are both from Dinajpur, where Shaheed served for 15 years. Zakirul owed Shaheed the money, while Saiful works in his accomplice’s warehouse.

Shaheed was stabbed around 7 p.m. Thursday in Holyland Alley in Shyamoli in Dhaka. He died of his injuries around 11 p.m. that evening at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital.

“Zakirul revealed during the initial interrogation that he got to know Shaheed while stationed in Dinajpur and then became a close friend.”

“Zakirul acted as a go-between when Shaheed bought a piece of land. Zakirul also took out loans from Shaheed at different times, which accumulated up to Tk 1.2 million, ”Moin said, adding that the two kept in touch after Shaheed retired and arrived. in Dhaka.

A year ago, Zakir, a drug addict, enlisted Shaheed’s help in acquiring 2 million Tk by mortgaging his rice warehouse. Shaheed, however, refused to help and lobbied for the debt owed to him to be repaid, Moin said.

“Zakirul often needed money to buy drugs and sometimes gave money to Saiful.”

CCTV footage of the murder area showed a masked man wearing a cap wandering the street for three to four minutes with one hand in his pocket. When the victim entered the alley from Ring Road, the assailant stepped forward and stuck the knife into his stomach in an instant before fleeing.

The loan was a secret, according to Moin. They made another attempt to kill Shaheed “three or four months ago” but failed due to dire circumstances.

Zakirul was nearby during the murder and was seen helping Shaheed throw himself to the ground after the incident and fled when a crowd gathered, Moin said.

He was ready to flee to Dinajpur when someone called him to let him know that Shaheed had been hospitalized. To avoid suspicion, Zakirul visited Shaheed in the hospital before leaving for Dinajpur.

After reports of the murder spread, Zakirul and Saiful stayed on the road before the RAB caught them in Gabtoli in Dhaka.

Shaheed was stationed in Joydebpur before retiring 12 years ago.

On Friday, her younger sister Ferdous Sultana took action against unidentified people at the Adabor police station.
