European countries to visit in September: Cheaper, less crowded and with great weather, the ninth month of the year is always holiday month, that is, if you’re not worried about your kids’ final exams. Although summer holidays in India run from June to July, there are plenty of reasons to consider booking your “summer” holiday in September. For anyone not tied to the school calendar, September can be a wonderful time to go on vacation for three indisputable reasons. First, it’s cheaper; second, the destinations are less crowded; and third, the weather is still glorious, with temperatures in southern Europe remaining below 25 degrees Celsius. Also Read – Iconic Ellora Caves will soon become the first heritage site in India to install hydraulic lifts

In terms of visitor numbers, a third of tourism across Europe takes place in July and August – but in September numbers fall to pre-June levels across the continent, according to a Telegraph report. This in turn leads to better hotel availability, more space and better service, as a less stressed local tourism industry is freed from its regular peak season burdens. September is probably the best time to take a walk in the vineyards of Provence when summer has ripened the vines the most. Book a walking tour with On Foot Holidays and your route will take you through vineyards where workers harvest the grapes to produce Gigondas or Beaumes de Venise. Take in the drama of the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains and stay in family-run hotels, ending at Les Florêts in Gigondas with its fine restaurant and own wines. You can also go camping by the sea in Languedoc. Narbonne’s halles (food market) are the best in the area and Cabanes de Fleury is the quietest beach. Crete, the largest of the Greek islands, is a great option for September sunshine. Come for the endless yellow sand beaches, but stay for the archaeology, walking and boat trips. A particularly haunting option takes you from the pretty port of Elounda to Spinalonga, an island in Mirabello Bay lined with Venetian forts that housed lepers quarantined in Greece until 1957. The island’s mysterious Minoan civilization is explored to great effect in the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion. If that’s too much history and culture to take in, you can just fly and fail.

Italy

Book a villa in one of the stunning towns – Positano, Scala, Amalfi – along the rugged coast with its cliffside lemon groves overlooking the sparkling sea, or opt for an island, where things are still open this season intermediate. At the heart of Mediterranean culture is Sicily, an Italian region that is a symphony of culture, natural beauty as it rests on stretches of yellow sand beaches and rocky coves. Don’t miss cities like Palermo, Catania and Syracuse; stroll through the volcanic landscapes of Etna, the vineyards and the ancient theater of Taormina; explore the Greek temples of Agrigento, Selinunte, and Segesta, and the Roman sites of Piazza Armerina. Come in September and these treasures are much less crowded than at the height of summer.

Besides all these fascinating places, if you still have time, visit Switzerland once, after all, Zurich always gives that DDLJ feeling, even in September!
