Like any other worthy vintage hotel, it’s teeming with ghost stories. Joseph Stickney’s widow was Caroline Foster Stickney – known locally at the hotel as “The Princess”. She became a longtime resident of the hotel and remarried – marrying a French royal named Jean Baptiste Marie de Faucigny Lucinge. Throughout the history of hotels, many people have reported sightings of Caroline in an elegant Victorian dress.
Guests often report spotting her in the hotel’s many hallways, while objects in rooms can surprisingly disappear as there are faint knocks on doors with no one outside. She is often seen on the edge of her bed. These stories even drew the crew of the popular TV show, Ghost hunters. See here for some of the most haunted places to visit.
Staying in the beautiful state of New Hampshire can’t get better than this. For those on a budget, the Mount Washington Resort is a great way to explore the state. The hotel is the perfect blend of modernity and comfort, opulence and turn-of-the-century nostalgia.
